Outdoor Classroom

A unique setting to immerse students in the natural world

The UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden serves as an outdoor classroom for courses ranging from English Literature and Art to Geography and Physics.

Resources available to college courses:

• Outdoor Amphitheater that seats ~40. It is reservable for free for UCLA courses, and includes a hidden whiteboard that can be set up for you.

We highly recommend reserving the space as soon as possible to secure your date. Please send in requests no later than 72 hours in advance to ensure requests are approved in time for your class. Wait times may vary on the weekends.

Requests sent with less than 24 hours notice will not be approved. Unauthorized use of the Amphitheater may result in your class being asked to leave.

• Guided tour (please make sure to request at least 1 month in advance)

We do not offer free reservations of the Outdoor Amphitheater for UCLA Extension (UNEX) courses. For more information about reserving the Outdoor Amphitheater, please visit our Venue Reservations page.

Hours (February through October):

Weekends: 9AM to 4PM

UCLA Holidays: Open 9AM to 5PM. Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Closed at 2pm on Christmas Eve.
