The UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden was featured in an article by Jeanette Marantos for the L.A. Times Plants about public gardens across Southern California! The article highlighted our unique collection including the porcupine tomato, our towering canopy, and the stream revitalization project which aimed at transforming our hydrology system to be water efficient and sustainable.
The UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden acknowledges the Gabrielino/Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (the Los Angeles basin and So. Channel Islands). As a promoter of nature at a California land grant institution, we pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.
