Tongva Basket Weaving Garden
The Tongva basket weaving garden was designed and planted by local members of the Gabrielino-Tongva Tribe. This Native Community is the traditional land caretaker of Tovaangar, which is the region of Southern California that includes the Los Angeles basin and the southernmost Channel Islands.
The California native plants selected are prioritized for use in traditional basket weaving by California native Peoples. They were placed in the ground ceremonially with recognition, respect, and reciprocity of our relationship with nature. We hope the spirit of this relationship will nurture our Garden, its caretakers, and visitors.
