Oak Woodland
Coast live oaks are an essential part of California ecosystems. For thousands of years, local Gabrielino-Tongva tribal communities have gathered under we’aashar or oak trees. These trees provide a cool microclimate beneath the shade of their dense canopy.
Today, they continue to provide sustenance and support to life across Los Angeles. Over 200 species of wildlife, insects, and micro-organisms depend on coast live oaks. Native Southern California oaks are adapted to dry summers and wet winters. This strong, disease-resistant species is ideal for landscaping and is attractive year-round.
