UCLA’s ‘Moment of Reflection’ marks the one-year anniversary of the LA fires

In an article for the UCLA Newsroom, Madeline Adamo recounts the “Moment of Reflection” event held at Dickson Court South to mark the first anniversary of the fires that impacted countless Angelenos. Bruins and Chancellor Julio Frenk came together to commemorate the grief still felt and the ongoing healing process with a performance by the UCLA Chamber Singers and a ceremony sowing native California wildflower seeds into planters.

The planters were then brought to the Garden and planted alongside a manzanita sapling, symbolizing the community that came together and the hope for renewal. Adamo writes, “Manzanitas, California native plants whose red bark and twisting limbs are a familiar feature of Altadena’s landscape, were decimated during the Eaton fire but are also among the first plants to reappear.”
