Tongva Basket Weaving Garden

For Native American Heritage Month, Garden Director Victoria Sork spoke with UCLA to discuss the Tongva Basket Weaving Garden. The garden is the result of a collaboration with the local Tongva-Gabrielino community who selected the plants, planted them in the ground, and blessed them in a private ceremony. The plants in the garden are California native plants which were selected for their use in basket weaving. Sork also highlighted UCLA faculty member Professor Theresa Ambo, who is a member of the Tongva community and basket weaver working to preserve the traditions of the Tongva basket weaving style.
