February 2017 Garden Update

An exceptionally rainy winter so far is keeping the garden staff busy repairing paths and cleaning up debris. After enduring several years of below average rainfall, the plants are responding very well to the moisture. Meanwhile, the construction of the La Kretz Botanical Garden and Pavilion continues, everyone is looking forward to having a wonderful new visitor center for the garden. A visioning exercise to develop the long term vision of the Garden is also underway involving garden staff, biology faculty and community stakeholders. Mia Lehrer and Associates landscape architecture firm is facilitating this process which will guide the direction of the living collection development, landscape aesthetics and public programming. Expect exciting things in 2017!
