Through Mildred’s Eyes: UCLA 1952-1993

The following collection features photographs of UCLA Botanical Gardens taken by Mildred E. Mathias from mainly 1983, 1985 and 1993. Each photo corresponds to a particular moment in her life. In these photos you can see the development of the Botanical Garden, and some of the amazing plants that are grown there. Mildred had a wonderful eye, creating compositions that serve artistic purpose as well as scientific documentation.

To the right, take a tour through the Garden with Dr. Mathias as your tour guide. The featured audio files are part of a series entitled Oral Histories of Landscape Architecture related to UCLA Horticulture recorded by Mary Asher around 1978.
