In tropical rain forest of Costa Rica is an aroid hemiepiphyte Monstera tenuis (Family Araceae), which begins its life as a vine rooted in the ground and growing up tree trunks. Here a young specimen is growing on stilt roots of a palm. Years later, we would find this perched as an epiphyte in the tree, having no root connections with the soil.
