In the shallow water occurs this genus, Nymphoides (Family Menyanthaceae), which has leaves strikingly similar to water-lily (Nymphaea). The similarly is easily detected when the plants are in flower, because Nymphoides has much smaller flowers with five fimbriate petals. This genus also clones via stolons, located just below the surface of the water. Pictured here is a yellow-flowered species that is native to South Africa.
