Tule growing along Fish Slough near Bishop, California Throughout California can be found freshwater marshes and sloughs that are densely populated by tall sedges called tule, Scirpus (Family Cyperaceae). These are monocotyledons with photosynthetic (green) stems. These aquatic plants are an important wetland habitat for wildlife, especially birds and insects. This is a natural reserve of the University of California, a place called Fish Slough, located near Bishop, California.
