Floating aquatics, Azolla filiculoides and two sizes of duckweeds Very common on ponds are the floating aquatic fern Azolla filiculoides and monocotyledonous duckweeds (Subfamily Lemnoideae of Family Araceae). Here there appear to be two species of duckweeds, one with large fronds and a very small one. Organisms such as these are easily dispersed by waterfowl from one pond or lake to the next.
