Very widely distributed are the species of cattail, because the fruits (a nutlet) are equipped with long hairs, so that the propagule can be carried by the wind long distances. This is Typha latifolia (Family Typhaceae), found throughout much of the United States, Canada, parts of Mexico, Eurasia, and northern Africa.
