The rapidly growing shoot of Anemopaegma orbiculatum (family Bignoniaceae), a neotropical liana, has one leaflet of each palmately compound leaf modified as a tendril. As in most climbers, stem internodes become elongate before the leaflets are fully expanded, the strategy of searcher shoots. This species has opposite leaf arrangement, and the axillary buds are well-developed and ready to grow as new shoots.
