Gouania lupuloides (Family Rhamnaceae), a scandent climber, is a very wide-ranging and common species that forms a hooked tendril at the base of the peduncle (stalk of an inflorescence). These hooks become somewhat woody, and in some parts of the West Indies are used in care of teeth.
