On fresh volcanic slopes above Puyehue National Park in central Chile, Gunnera magellanica (Family Haloragaceae) is a common perennial herb. Its colonizes spread via stolons, which form adventitious roots at the nodes. This species is part of the Patagonian flora from southern South America.
