Variegated leaves of an understory herb, Episcia lilacina, in a neotropical rain forest A very colorful variegated leaf can be found in this gesneriad, Episcia lilacina (Family Gesneriaceae) from the understory of a Costa Rican rain forest. This family also contain the African violets and other fleshy-leaved plants that can have prominent red pigmentation. This species clones via stolons.
