Leaf form in the genus Philodendron varies considerably, but often they are triangular (deltoid). Adventitious roots are produced at each node (nodal roots) and enable the shoot to attach to a substrate. Within the shade of a wet rain forest, these nodal roots can be wet much of the time, especially acting as points for dripping water from runoff of the leaves, and the wet root tip can thereby absorb moisture for the young leaves.
