Large, leaf-like stipule of western sycanmore, Platanus racemosa The most common example of a tree with large, green stipules is our own California or western sycamore, Platanus racemosa (Family Platanaceae). Each stipule is fused to the stem and persistent, being shed before the leaf. Stems, petioles, stipules, and leaf blades are dense-hairy with tan-colored, stellate trichomes.
