Larrea tridentata (Family Zygophyllaceae), the ubiquitous evergreen shrub of the North American warm deserts, has bilobed, resin-coated leaves produced in pairs and persistent stipules. The stipule forms like a small scale and later the base forms as a corky bump on the stem.
