In legumes, the swollen region at the base of a leaf is termed a pulvinus. One shriveled stipule, attached to the base of the pulvinus, will soon abscise. In this species of Cassia (Family Caesalpiniaceae), there is a prominent axillary bud located between the stem and the pulvinus.
