Red young leaves of Photinia serrulata The young leaves of this rapidly growing shoot of Photinia serrulata (Family Rosaceae) from China are red due to the presence of vacuolar anthocyanins. Leaf arrangement is helically alternate on this orthotropic shoot. If you look closely at the youngest leaves, you will observe the narrow stipules, which abscise as soon as the leaf is mature.
