Opposite decussate phyllotaxis is displayed in the shoot of Dicoria canescens (Family Asteraceae), a spring and summer annual of California sandy deserts. Leaves of this plants are somewhat silvery or gray in appearance, having hairs that partially reflect sunlight, in particular heating-producing infrared radiation.
