White primary and secondary veins of the leaf blade in this Sanchezia (Family Acanthaceae) occur because there is no pigmentation (and no photosynthesis) within cells associated with the veins. This is merely an exaggerated form of a very common condition, where veins are not covered with photosynthetic tissue.
