Bursera microphylla (Family Burseraceae) is an easily recognized small tree of the Sonoran Desert by its peeling tan bark. The bark is extremely aromatic due to the presence of terpenes in resin ducts. Bursera is a member of the frankincense family, and the hardened resin of certain species is used for incense.
