Discarded husks of coconut The mesocarp (coir) of a coconut (Cocos nucifera) can be used after the copra (hard endosperm) and shell (endocarp) have been removed. Coir is fibrous due to the presence of many vascular bundles. Coir can e made into mats and cloth, and nowadays is being processed as plant mulch or a soil additive.
