Citrus ovary in longitudinal section The pistil of Citrus has a large ovary at the base with a number of locules (chambers). When the flower first opens, the locules are filled with air and have ovules (future seeds), but this will become filled with juice sacs, outgrowths of the inner ovary wall, during fruit development. Atop the ovary is a cylindrical style. At the base of the ovary is a circular nectary, here seen in section, which looks like a jello mold.
