Papaya, Carica papaya, growing in a plantation on the island of Oahu Papaya, Carica papaya, has a distinctive growth habit, having light gray trunks, unusually unbranched, that look like an upside down gray carrot. Papaya is widely cultivated in plantations throughout the tropics. Here it can be seen at a plantation on Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands.
