About twenty-five eager individuals participated in our fall 1997 Volunteer Gardener Program, now being managed by Joan Muench and Elizabeth Schwartz--both staff workers who themselves began as volunteers. Our volunteers can be credited with important contributions to our garden. Major projects have included thinning plant materials and renovating the aquatic collection of the recirculating stream, pruning in the Hawaiian section, and annual maintenance on the California natives and the Med section. The volunteers also help kept our paths clean.
